President Goodluck Jonathan will address the nation at 7 tonight on the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and Voice of Nigeria (VON).
A statement by Reuben Abati, Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), advised other television and radio stations in the country to hook up to the national stations for the broadcast.
It would be recalled that President Jonathan cut short his visit to South Africa and cancelled his state visit to Namibia following the attack on policemen in Nassarawa that led to the death of over hundred security operatives. Yesterday, he met with the National Security Council, the second time in four days, after the upsurge in violence in the country.
But, despite speculations that the federal government may be planning to declare a state of emergency in some of the worst affected states, Presidential spokesman Reuben Abati, has stoutly denied any plan by the government do declare emergency rule.
Earlier today, President Jonathan invited the governors of Borno and Yobe, Kashim Shettima and Ibrahim Geidam, respectively to Abuja to discuss security challenges in their states.
Speaking to newsmen after their closed door meeting with the president, Gov. Shettima said they were invited by President Jonathan to discuss the issue of insecurity.
“Well, we are basically here to cross-pollinate our ideas with Mr President on how to move the nation forward. That is in a nutshell, what brought us here to cross-fertilise our ideas with Mr President.”
According to him, peace is gradually returning to the state in spite of reported cases of attacks in some parts.
